Self-balancing wheelchairs utilise Segway technology to provide their user with intuitive and involved motion control. My project focused on improving existing products of this nature by designing solutions for two of their major flaws: difficulties with their steering handlebars and seat height.
The project involved continual codesign with a self-balancing wheelchair user, as well as the iterative development and testing of ideas on his device. The year culminated with a viable solution being reached that was then manufactured and given to said codesign partner – greatly improving his daily wheelchair experience.
